| Property: | A 1936 sugar plantation home, restored to reflect the style and hospitality of "old Hawaii". The Inn is a smoke-free environment and cat-friendly, and is perfect for family reunions, retreats and small weddings. | Aloha! Set in the heart of Hawaii's historic sugar plantation country, the Wayside pampers our visitors with unique, antique-furnished bedrooms, sumptuous bathrooms, and bountiful fresh-cooked breakfasts served traditional style in the plantation house dining room. This historic 1938 sugar plantation managers residence is set in a tropical garden of fruit and nut trees, and brilliant-flowering, sweet-smelling shrubs. Extensive decks offer panoramic views of the sugar cane fields and Hamakua coast, with hammocks and chairs to lounge in. ![]() The home has been lovingly restored, and furnished throughout with charming antiques. Each of the five bedrooms carries a different theme - the Chinese Room furnished in Chinese antiques from 1836 - 1895 with a color theme of deep blue and crisp whites; the Plantation Room with two great double antique beds, one hand carved from Scotland: the Birds Eye Room furnished in birds eye wood, spacious and very private, a favorite for honeymooners; the Library Room with warm knotty pine walls, the best ocean views, and over 400 books; the Moon Room with lots of books and a bench to sit and read. ![]() Our snack counter is open to visitors all the time, and is stocked with teas, pretzels, chocolate kisses, pistachios and filtered water. In the evening, relax in our comfortable sitting room, browse our
extensive Hawaiiana library, or watch TV or a movie from our video

| Location: | Our location is ideal for the Hawaii visitor. Set on the road to famous Waipio Valley on the temperate north-eastern coast, we are about halfway between Kona's beach resorts and nightlife, and Volcano's National Park, home of the world's only "drive-in" volcano. | ||
| Rooms: | All our bedrooms have tropical flower arrangements, ceiling fans and good reading lights. And all have a private bath - each stocked with fluffy towels, bath salts, herbal oils and bubble bath so you can enjoy a relaxing soak. The Library Room , Birds Eye Room , Chinese and Plantation rooms have the baths in room. The Moon Room has a private bath across the hall. | ||

| Breakfast: | Breakfast is a special time at the Wayside. Your friendly, knowledgeable hostess is happy to talk story and give excellent travel advice, and we are noted for our generous breakfasts. We love to cook and our menu changes daily so you will never be bored. We serve as much fresh, local, organic food as we can, and can cater to dietary restrictions, given notice. And of course, we serve only pure Kona coffee, as well as a large selection of herb and specialty teas to suit all tastes. | ||
| Facilities: | One and a half acres of lush tropical foliage in a garden setting surrounding two large decks with double hammocks, a swing and small gazebo overlooking the sugar cane fields down to the ocean. Relax on our hammocks or enjoy our extensive Hawaiiana library and video selection. Munch on a variety of treats available all day for your enjoyment. | ||

Deposit: 1 night - 100%, multiple nights 50% of booking. Cancellation: $25 processing fee, Two weeks prior to arrival - refund minus fee. Under two weeks full payment required if room cannot be rebooked. |
